WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) is a Microsoft tool that allows organizations to centrally manage and control Windows updates for computers on their network. It is the preferred method in certain environments because it gives organizations control, cost efficiency, and centralized update management — especially in on-premises/hybrid networks
A very important aspect of the OSD process with MDT is that the device must be updated the moment is finishes litetouch deployment. The following script provides details on grabbing updates only from internal WSUS server.
Overview:
1. The following script will configure registry to point to WSUS server then call windows update using [PSWindowsUpdate] module.
2. The script will not inject client side targeting registry values as the rest can be handled by group policy. It is also difficult to know when WSUS computer groups gets updated so that it reflects correctly for MDT script.
3. The script can be run before domain join or post domain join with gpupdate already forced.
4. Current wsus server name is: "WSUS.red929.com"
